A Chocolate and Pistachio Birdhouse

Pistachio birdhouse

Colleen's last birdhouse is enough to make you want a snack.  She  used the Chocolate and Pistachio Gelatos to create this little gem.  Book pages were adhered to the birdhouse with Gel Medium. Colleen used her trusty paint making technique to make watercolor paint with her Gelatos by swirling them on to a palette and adding water.  She chose a Pistachio house with a Chocolate roof and doesn't it look yummy!  Circles and Stripes were painted on with the Gesso in the Textural Accents Sampler.  While wet, Colleen sprinked with glitter.  The Gesso acts as both a glue and an opaque paint.  She topped it off with some silk leaves and what else, a tiny feathered friend.

Making Stones

Making stones

Hey bloggers Rita Barakat here!  A while back I posted this cute little house but I want to share with you how to make "stones" out of scrap chipboard! First cut various sizes out of chipboard, round the edges. (Think river rocks!)

More Gelatos to love!

Blue house

We're back with Colleen's second birdhouse project.  This time Collen used the Blueberry and Cotton Candy Gelato colors that will be debuting at CHA in Anaheim next month.  Using a similar collage technique, Colleen cut her music sheets to size and adhered once again with the Gel Medium from the Textural Accents Sampler.  She them painted over some areas using the Glaze, also found in the Textural Accents Sampler.  This glaze will make these places shiny and will also act as a resist in the next step when she paints the birdhouse. Colleen created paints by swirling her Gelato colors on to a palette and then added water to make the paint.  Then using her 2 colors painted the birdhouse.  You can see the white of the music papers still shows through where she used the Glaze.  Silver glitter glue makes the birdhouse glisten, while a silver ribbon makes a cozy spot for the blue bird to perch.

Gelato Bird Houses......and a SNEAK PEEK at NEW Gelato colors!

After you read this post, February 1st won't come fast enough.  Afterall, that is the day that the NEW Gelatos will be shipping to stores all around the country.  Design Memory Craft is launching 10 new Gelato colors at the CHA Winter show in Anaheim later next month.  Colleen McGinty had the unique opportunity to work with the new colors before they were available.  What she created was so special, well, we just couldn't hold off showing you her projects now.

Easy technique with Art GRIP® Aquarelle pencils

Aquarelle technique

Hi there everyone, Mou Saha here with today's post.Back in October, when I went to teach at Oh My Crafts' Discovering Possibilities event, many of the students wanted to know how to use the Art GRIP® Aquarelle watercolor pencils. So, I have been experimenting with these pencils. Let me share with you one of the simple things I learned. Usually, I associate palette knives with oil and acrylic paints, but I found that they work great with watercolors too.

Quick Card Inspiration

Need a quick and easy card for the holidays?  Mou Saha has got your inspiration!  Mou created this card using Art GRIP® Aquarelle Pencils to add color to the background and ornaments.  You can cut out your ornaments by had for a fun free form shape, or use your die cutter of you want something a bit more crisp and polished.  Add your ornaments using Helmar 3D Scrap Dots and 3D Zap Dots.  Mou then layered her card onto some craft paper and did a quick sew around the edges and to add the strings for the ornaments.  Quick, easy and best of all made by YOU!

Creativity Week Bonus Post!

Well, since it is Creativity Week it seems like there's no better time than the present for a extra post for the day.  We've been talking about holiday crafts this week and the holidays are often great inspiration for scrapbooking.  Rita Barakat created these 2 layouts using Design Memory Craft Mix & Match Gelatos and Helmar Zapdots and 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.  Rita used the Gelatos to add color to her chipboard pieces.  The Gelatos cover chipboard really well and the color stays nice and bright.  Of course if you need a more subtle look for your projects, the Gelatos can be easily blended with water or your fingertip to create a gentle wash of color.  Zapdots and 450 Quick Dry Adhesive are great for affixing chipboard and heavier embellishments like the flowers, buttons and ribbons Rita added to her pages.

The Creativity is flowing over at the Helmar Blog too, so don't miss it!
