Gelatos & Gesso Background Technique

Verve blue poppy

Hello, Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft fans!

Stacey here with a background technique using Gelatos and Gesso!  It still amazes me how some coloring with Gelatos and a few swipes of Gesso creates the most BEAUTIFUL results...and yet, it's so simple to do!

Using the Aqua Double Scoop Gelatos and Turquoise Gelatos, I colored a piece of patterned paper in a streaked pattern.

Gelatos and gesso1

I took a waterbrush and blended the two Gelatos for a subtle water-colored look.

Next, I placed a striped stencil over the water-colored paper and hold firmly with fingers while applying Gesso with a foam brush.

Gelatos and gesso 3

Apply the Gesso as lightly or as liberally as you desire, keeping in mind that it is a transluscent medium that will lighten up as it dries.

Gently lift the stencil from the paper and see the gorgeous results.

For some added color, I created a well of diluted Gelatos to use as on my floral stamp, then stamped over the flower with an outlined image with the Black Stamper's Big Brush.

BEAUTIFUL card Stacey!!!

THANK YOU for sharing your tutorial & inspiration.

I am new to using Gelatos, just finished my 1st ever project and found your background technique ever so interesting. I thought that I had to apply Gesso before using the Gelatos {... can you guess that it was my 1st time using Gesso too?} and now I have MORE ways to try them out - thank you :)

PS - I have been a follower here for a long time and find that I really need to go back and do my homework, perhaps because I didn't have any Gelatos at the time the technical details behind each project didn't "sink in" but I assure you that they will now!!!
