Creating water effects with Rita

Hey there artsy peeps Rita Barakat here and I am super excited to share a little project I made  for a CHA  display - my own little mermaid. I wan to share a fun technique I used to make the water background.

After using a layer of Gesso on my canvas I drew wavy lines with various Gelatos®Colors.

I used a dry sponge to rub in each color wave.

After the entire canvas was covered I misted the whole thing with water then used  a paper towel to blot it. I did this a few times until it softened the look and made it look more water like.

I added a little seaweed with a stencil  (The Crafters Workshop) and  a dry sponge and there you have it! Water aka Rita Barakat. I turned it on it's side and added my mermaid. I hope you will try this technique. I have this project and more on display at CHA booth #19 so come check it out and of course visit the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® #1531!
