Key to Your Own Happiness (Tropicals Mixed Media Kit) - with Lisa

Hey everyone! It's Lisa back with you today to showcase another one of the fabulous Mixed Media kits exclusive to Barnes & Noble. Today I'll be using the Tropical Mixed Media Kit.

Tropical Mixed Media Kit
This is a 23 piece kit chock FULL of amazingness!! Here is what is included in the kit:

  • Five Gelatos® in the following colors: Snow Cone, Margarita Mix, Watermelon, Raspberry, and Metallic Melon.
  • Two Mistine Bottles
  • One Drip Dropper
  • One Dot Dabber
  • One Palette Knife
  • One Stipple Brush
  • 10 Mixed Media Stencils
  • One Texture Luxe™ in Pearl
  • And a technique guide

The bright and cheery Gelatos® colors in this kit are sure to warm you up during cooler weather.

I knew right away when I saw the stencils included in this kit that I wanted to use the stencil with the keys. I've been reading a lot of quotes lately about happiness and I made up my own based on this stencil (at least I think I did...:D )

Here is how I made the card:

Rub the Gelatos® from the kit all over watercolor paper. Use fingers to blend.

Using a mister bottle filled with water, mist the paper quite heavily and allow the Gelatos® to drip and blend further. Allow to dry.

When dry...

Using Palette Knife from the kit, scoop out a small amount of the Texture Luxe™ Pearl and place onto work surface. Mist with water. Dip Stipple Brush into the mixture. Pull back onto the bristles of the brush and allow the Texture Luxe™/water mixture to "flick" onto the paper.

Place the stencil with the keys where you'd like it to be and then using the Palette Knife, scoop a small amount of the Texture Luxe™ Pearl and spread it over the stencil. Lift the stencil straight up. (Prior to the Texture Luxe™ drying I pushed a sequin into it.)

Using another stencil with arrows I repeat the technique, but using Whipped Spackle and selectively stencilling the arrows I wanted.

Using some of the Stamper's Big Brush Pens (May Green #170, Magenta #133, Cobalt Green #156, Light Cobalt Turquoise #154, Pink Madder Lake #129) trace around the arrows and then use a paintbrush with a small amount of water to soften and blend the edges.

Trim the panel to size, distress the edges and add color to the edges using Stamper's Big Brush Pen in Magenta #133. Embellish with sequins, if desired, and add to card base.

The quote reads, "Happiness is the key, you are the destination" and it was created using a VERY old school Dymo label maker.

I hope you've enjoyed the card and tutorial today!
