FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaTag_MouS

Cut open a cereal box with scissors. Cut it into an 8" long x 4" wide rectangle. Snip the top corners at about 45 degree angles. Punch a hole near the top center to make the tag.

Lay the Mandala stencil on the tag as shown and apply a coat of Whipped Spackle with palette knife. Let dry.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaTag_MouS

Cut a piece of a cardboard box. Peel off the top layer to expose the corrugated surface. Tear a small piece. Attach it to the tag with Gel Medium using the silicone spatula.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaTag_MouS

Apply a coat of gesso over the dry layers.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaTag_MouS

Color the tag with Gelatos colors. Blend them with water using paint brush from the Iridescents set.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaTag_MouS

Did you know that you can stamp with Gelatos colors? 'Ink up' a background stamp with Gelatos color Iced Coffee. Spritz a little water on the stamp. Stamp randomly around the tag.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaTag_MouS

Drip some Gelatos color down the tag to add another layer of interest.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaTag_MouS

Trace the above stencil from the 201 collection on cardstock with PITT pen. Color it with Gelatos colors and cut around it to create a focal point piece.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaTag_MouS

Cut some thread with scissors and mush it up in your hands. attach it to the tag with gel medium. Attach the focal point piece overlapping the thread.

Cut a small strip of cardstock and snip one end to look like a banner. Write 'Be Cool' on it with PITT pen. Attach to the tag to finish.

Hope this tutorial inspires you to take a second look at discarded objects and to give them a new life!

Mixed Media Art Journaling

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaAJPage_MouS

Hi everyone, Mou Saha here with a mixed media art journal page! Art journaling is such a free-ing and relaxing practice. I just add layers of colors and mediums and stop when I feel the page is done. If you have never tried art journaling, may be you should try. There are no rules really and no right or wrong way of doing it.

Here are the supplies I used for this page -

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Ice Layers Bubbles

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gel Medium

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gesso

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos® colors - Buttercream, Fig, Iced Chai, Iced Coffee, Metallic Melon, Nebula

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Mixed Media Paper Stencils - 202 Mandala

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Mixed Media Transfers - Flowers, Words

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos Tool Set

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Silicone spatula, paint brush

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Collapsible Water cup

Other: watercolor paper (140 lb cold press 6"x9"), found papers and trims, scissors, heat tool (optional)

Now, let me walk you through the steps.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaAJPage_MouS

Cut a piece of Ice Layers - Bubbles with scissors and attach to the page. The Ice Layers are self-adhesive clear texture layers that can be used as a whole or cut up as I did. If you are planning to cut it apart, be sure to keep the protective layers on so the pieces don't stick to your cutting tools. You can even use it as stencil.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaAJPage_MouS

Attach pieces of found papers and trims to the page using gel medium and silicone spatula or a brush. Seal the pieces in place with a top coat of gel medium. Let dry.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaAJPage_MouS

Place a Mandala Mixed Media Paper stencil and apply Whipped Spackle with a palette knife. Let the Spackle dry completely.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaAJPage_MouS

Apply a coat of gesso to unify the pieces and to prepare the page for adding colors.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaAJPage_MouS

Rub Gelatos colors as shown.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaAJPage_MouS

Blend the colors with a paint brush dipped in water.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaAJPage_MouS

Rub some Gelatos colors on a palette or craft mat and dilute the pigment with water. Splatter some on the page and let some colors drip down.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaAJPage_MouS

Once the colors are thoroughly dry, cut out pieces from the Mixed Media Transfers Flowers and apply to the page with the craft stick included in the kit.

FCDMC_August2018_MixedMediaAJPage_MouS

Create a focal point with one of the phrases from the Words Mixed Media Transfers to finish.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will give art journaling a try!

Bible Journaling

FCDMC_April2018_BlogTutorial_BibleJournalingKit_MouS

Hi everyone, Mou here with a Bible Journaling tutorial using the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Bible Journaling Kit.

SUPPLIES:

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Bible Journaling Kit

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accents & Tools - Gel Medium, GlazeGesso, Whipped Spackle, Gelatos Tool Kit

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Collapsible Water Cup

Silicone Spatula (from Honey Medium Starter kit - you can use a brush instead)

Scissors

Watercolor paper (I used 140 lb cold press by Canson, cut to 9x9 inches)

FCDMC_April2018_BlogTutorial_BibleJournalingKit_MouS

The Bible I have does not have a wide margin, so I make color copies of the verses, trim around with scissors and attach to a wider piece of watercolor paper with Gel Medium. You may not need to do this step if your Bible is designed for journaling.

Apply Gesso around the verse and even layer on parts of the verse that you don't plan to focus on. Let dry.

FCDMC_April2018_BlogTutorial_BibleJournalingKit_MouS

Add some color to the page using the highlighter Gelatos from the kit. Blend with water.

FCDMC_April2018_BlogTutorial_BibleJournalingKit_MouS

Lay the stencil Trust His Path on the page and apply Whipped Spackle with a palette knife.

FCDMC_April2018_BlogTutorial_BibleJournalingKit_MouS

Doodle a frame around your chosen verse with a PITT pen.

FCDMC_April2018_BlogTutorial_BibleJournalingKit_MouS

Cut out a phrase from the kit with scissors to attach to the page. Add a diecut or sticker to decorate.

FCDMC_April2018_BlogTutorial_BibleJournalingKit_MouS

Rub some more Gelatos colors on and blend it with a coat of glaze over the whole page. Let dry completely.

FCDMC_April2018_BlogTutorial_BibleJournalingKit_MouS

Doodle some feathers around the verse with PITT pen.

FCDMC_April2018_BlogTutorial_BibleJournalingKit_MouS

Handletter the verse near the framed verse and doodle a frame around it with the Metallic Gold PITT pen. Make marks and add more touches of gold all around the page to finish.

Mixed Media Journal

2017-12-18 06.38.34

I recently got to play with some new Stencils and made a mixed media journal for a friend.

2017-12-17 13.28.05

I used mixed media paper & card stock, trimmed to size, a stencil and Gelatos for this projects. I also used a book binding machine for mine, but if you don't have one, no problem. You can punch holes by hand and either bind it together with ribbon or use loose leaf binder rings, like these shown below.

51kk0wTKwBL._SL500_AC_SS350_

These are readily available at your local office supply store.

2017-12-17 13.30.02

I trimmed my card stock down to the desired size.
2017-12-17 13.30.02

I used my book binder machine to punch holes along one edge, but again, you can do this by hand.

2017-12-17 13.38.32

I used Gel Medium to adhere the card stock to my two chipboard pieces.

2017-12-17 15.28.25

Next, I used Gelatos in Fig and Satellite, available in the Iridescents set along with one of the stencils to decorate the front and back covers. I also used touches of Lunar and Silver Ice Gelatos.

2017-12-17 16.16.06

I used Essential Pitt Artist Pens and a Stampers Big White Pen to add some definition and ran Satellite around the edges.

2017-12-17 16.29.03

I added some glitter to Whipped Spackle to add a bit of shimmer.

2017-12-17 16.20.12

To finish it off, I bound everything together and added some hand dyed ribbon as an accent.

Colorful Cardboard Christmas Tree

Gelatos-cardboard-christmas-tree-decor-carolyn-dube-4

Carolyn Dube here sharing a whimsical Christmas decoration made by recycling one of the cardboard boxes that has shown up at my door.  It starts by cutting out 5 triangles for the tree and 5 rectangles for the trunk.  Why did I use cardboard? I love the ridges and texture in cardboard plus it is an easy to find supply.

Gelatos-cardboard-christmas-tree-decor-carolyn-dube-1aI covered the front and sides with Gesso. New to Gesso? It is a primer that I am putting on the cardboard.  It will allow me to blend the Gelatos in the next step more easily.

Gelatos-cardboard-christmas-tree-decor-carolyn-dube-2

Using Gelatos, I added a color to part of the tree.  For the green, I did something a little different by mixing 2 colors together so I could get just the shade that I was envisioning. You can create custom colors by blending different colors together.

Gelatos-cardboard-christmas-tree-decor-carolyn-dube-7

Next, I blended it with my finger.  Another option is to use water and a paintbrush to move the color around also but I love the feel of smearing the color so I opted for using my hands. On the smaller triangles I filled it in completely with color but on the larger triangles, I left the center plain because it was just going to be covered up when the tree was glued together.

Gelatos-cardboard-christmas-tree-decor-carolyn-dube-8

To glue it together, I used Gel Medium.  Then  I added a top coat of Gel Medium to seal the Gelatos so that I could add the next layer to it.  The tree trunk was attached using masking tape on the back.

The back isn't glamorous at all, since the writing from the box is there too. Nobody will see the back because this will be hanging on a door in my art studio.  How will I hang it?  A Command Adhesive mount since this is so light.  After all it is just cardboard.

Gelatos-cardboard-christmas-tree-decor-carolyn-dube-3

Once the Gel Medium was completely dry, and it was very important that it is completely dry, I used the brush tip Pitt Pens to add a bit of pattern.  On the pink, I did scribble journaling where I captured my gratitude for the blessings in my life.  For each color, I chose a different pattern  to add with the pens. On the yellow the drawing is tough to see in photo, but it is there!

Gelatos-cardboard-christmas-tree-decor-carolyn-dube-6

Thanks for stopping by for a bit of colorful holiday play.  Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday!

Holiday Art Journaling

IMG_4004

Carolyn Dube here shaking off a bit of holiday stress in my art journal with the help of the rainbow.  Along the way, there was an O.O.P.S. or two.  What's an O.O.P.S.?  I used to call them mistakes, but now I know they're Outstanding Opportunities Presenting Suddenly.

Whatever is on my mind ends up in my art journal, and since the holidays were top of mind, I created trees by cutting out book text.   Using Gelatos and water, they became colorful trees.

IMG_3932

I colored the trees right on the page, not a drop of color was wasted since that became a part of the background as I added yellow and green Gelatos for the golden sky and grass.

IMG_3939

Using Gel Medium, I glued the tress on the page.  One of the trees didn't make it on the page.  You can see why in the video.  By using Gesso around the tree trunks, bits of the background show through.   Gesso is traditionally a primer, but who says it can't be used for more than that!

IMG_3954

The Paper Crafter Crayons added a subtle layer of journaling as I got my thoughts out on to the page.  If you use these on wet areas, such as Gel Medium that hasn't dried, it is a very subtle look.

IMG_3971

There was a big O.O.P.S. when I put the title on the page.  They are words cut out from a newspaper and one of the words ended up ripped off.  Was this a bad thing? Not at all! Just an Outstanding Opportunity Presenting Suddenly.  I took a little heart and put it right over the word heart that was ripped up.

IMG_3981

And that led me to filling the sky with hearts!   Thanks for stopping by for a bit of play as I shook off the stress so I could be back to what was really important to me about the holidays, the heart.

FCDMC_December2017_Tutorial1_Step1_MouS
